It’s a small world!

Places once considered far away (remember the word “abroad”?) are now next door through communications technology and ease of travel. Not only can we reach the entire world, the world has reached us.

It’s my belief that congregations which claim to be followers of Christ, true Christians, need to be meshing their local ministries with a global outreach. Thus: GLOCAL – a marriage of global and local. And I believe God wants to use my modest efforts to promote this concept and help congregations identify the links that already exist between their own communities and needs or opportunities in another part of the world.

After His death and resurrection and prior to ascending to heaven, Jesus told His disciples that they would receive power and would be His witnesses “in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8). If a congregation of His disciples today claims Holy Spirit empowerment, shouldn’t they be doing the same?

I owe the following overview to my good friend Dan Sheffield:

Jerusalem – people like you, near you
Judea – people like you, not far from you
Samaria – people not like you, not far from you
Ends of the earth – people not like you, far from you

Any and all of these groups can be the focus of a local church’s ministries at the same time. I want to use part of the rest of my life to promote this “glocal” connection – GLOCAL PROMOTIONS – get it?
